The Museum is also home to the collections of the Duke of Lancaster's Own Yeomanry.
A refurbishment was carried out in 2011 and attendance figures here are higher than at most other museums in the county, with 40,581 recorded visits in 2014. However I'm not aware of any statistics on how many visitors actually visit the 14th/20th and DLOY displays - it is only rarely discussed amongst our online community and they don't have a high profile. "... It is not clear what will happen to the two regimental museums housed at the Museum of Lancashire".
HHQ have recently announced plans for a refurbishment of our own regimental display in 2016. Reading between the lines of the proposed closure announcement there is a suggestion that museums might be saved if they become privately funded or adopted by the local council (rather than Lancashire council). "The (Lancashire) council will hold a public consultation into the proposed closures, which will consider alternative service delivery models, including their operation by local communities and interest groups."
Maybe it's the Regiment/Association we should be asking the questions of. The museum is currently free to visit but introducing an entry charge might make this feasible.
