Hi Rick,
Only just read your request I have been seeing Ian a few times both in Dorchester Hospital then the Weld Hospice were he spent some time to give Tina a break. His condition is critical and last week he was moved back home with palliative care visiting him. I rang Tina to arrange a visit but she said not at the moment as Ian was refusing to take his medicine and at times sadly was getting aggressive towards her.
Sadly he is slowly dying and has been now for a few months getting worse by the week. Tina is trying to put on a brave face as you can imagine but is having a difficult time, especially as she nursed other close family members over the passed couple of years.
Hope this finds you and Di in good spirits take care old friend Mick/Marion

My first known contact with Ian has been through Noah's Arc and I have gained the impression that he has enjoyed, amongst many other things, reading and writing. Indeed he has commented on some of my own pieces. I have just added another piece, in General Chat, titled ‚Red Meat‘ and I hope that Ian will find the strength to read it and perhaps pass his ever valued comments.

I don’t normally get into writing to or about people, who are very ill, that I did not personally know, because there are just so many. For Ian I shall make an exception because I have often felt that he was ‚one of the good uns‘.

It’s obviously very hard for those close to someone in Ian’s condition, but when I read Mick’s comment that ‚he refuses to take his medicine and has been aggressive towards his loved ones‘ I wanted to express my own feelings:

At our age and after leading the lives that we have, there is no medicine that can save us, we have had our fun and when it’s our turn to go, we shall. If Ian wants to stop taking his medicine that is his own very personal choice and his dear wife should, must accept his will ! By so doing she is then supporting him … perhaps to the end.

Some years ago I found myself having to make the same decision as Ian, to stop taking the medicine. In my case, as you can see, I recovered, then drastically changed my eating habits and life style and now live a reasonably comfortable life, still WITHOUT regular medicine !

I then married the lady with whom I had been living for some years because she had supported me in whatever I had decided to do for myself.

I care not what the state or others think, I believe that the right to make the decision to stop taking the medicine, have the machines turned off, etc. etc. belongs to the person concerned and nobody else ! It’s a lucky person who has the support and understanding of their loved ones in making this most difficult of all decisions.

I applaud you Ian, may your suffering be short lived and I wish you the same luck and support that I have enjoyed and of course a speedy recovery.

Hi Old Hawks ,Ian Leeming Update.
Went to see Ian again on Friday and to be quite honest he was in a sorry sad state there was a palliative nurse in attendance and the district nurse arrived to give him his medicine, They said he was drifting in and out of conscious and getting aggressive at times.
Tina has just rung me to give me an update,She said that the doctors are injecting Ian with morphine to ease the pain and he is virtually in an induced coma and it will not be long now when Ian passes away, sad though this is its the kindest thing for both of them to happen. They have had a really tough time over the last few years and Tina will have some rest and plan for the future tough though it will be without her soul mate. She also asked me to let you all know the latest and thanked you for kind wishes.

Will keep you posted please feel free to let other members know, have a great northern reunion.
Mick & Marion.
