My memory of the occasion was of a bus ride from Tidworth then a long, long delay in Heathrow and an awful lot of beer. The plane if I remember it right was a Bristol Britannia. The seats were facing backwards which was the airlines preferred way of positoning them at that time, not that I remember much about the flight. Fell asleep immediately on takeoff it may have been before. Apparently over France we went through the worst turbulence ever experienced by the flight crew. They woke everybody, that they could (I was not one of them) to have us alert in case of a crash. I woke up just in time to land at Benina.
If I remember correctly in that first couple of days we became familiar term 'self-inflicted injuries'. Long exposure to the Libyan sun. Quite a few were charged.
Another Old Hawk might remember who we took over from. My fading memory believes it was 2 RTR but I am probably wrong. Whoever it was why were they in such a hurry to get out of the place.
OH Happy days.
