"JAI 6GR" on MEDICINA Day

Postby Bob_H » Tue Apr 15, 2014 8:36 am

The members of Noah's Arc and the whole family of the 14th/20th King's Hussars send our warmest greeting to the members of the 6GR Regimental Association for the 69th Anniversary of the Battle of Medicina on the 16th April.

JAI 6th GURKHAS!
(Jai = 'Long Live" in Gurkhali.)

Our best wishes too to the commune of Medicina as you celebrate the Anniversary with the secure knowledge that we will be joining you in April 2015.

We have received a number of messages and these are added below.

Let's hear everyone shouting "JAI 6th GURKHAS! "

Message from the Chairman of the 6th GR Regimental association

"My greetings to you and all your members and on behalf of the 6GR Regimental Association both for the 69th Anniversary of the Battle of Medicina on the 16th and for a very successful Noah's Arc Reunion on 24-26th. I will raise a glass (of Italian vino!) to 14/20H that weekend.

With good memories of our happy meeting with you all at Medicina in 2012, Ciska and I are already looking to seeing you, Linda and your comrades in April next year.

Jai 14/20th King's Hussars, Jai 6th Gurkhas! (Jai = 'Long Live" in Gurkhali.)

From the Mayor of Medicina

We recently sent a message to Medicina wishing them all the best during their 69th anniversary celebrations. I have received the following reply:

"Thank you,

For my part, the administration and the citizens of Medicina.

Your greeting is very welcome and we look forward with joy to the celebrations of 2015.
Greetings, Mayor Onelio Rambaldi".

And from the Warrant Officers and Sergeants of the Medicina Lines in Brunei we've received the following:

As you are aware this year marks the 69th Anniversary of the Battle of Medicina.
The battle honour was only awarded to two regiments – 14th/20th King's Hussars and 6th Gurkha Rifles. Many years later Medicina Lines, Brunei Garrison, was named after this Battle which took place on the 16 April 1945.

To mark this event the Warrant Officer’s and Sergeant’s Mess, Medicina Lines, Brunei Garrison are for a second occasion holding a Dinner Night to celebrate the Battle of Medicina. During the Dinner accounts from the Battle will be read out followed by a performance by a Gurkha Piper and a Troop of Gurkhas performing a ‘Kukri Dance’. I have attached a copy of the Dinner Booklet and photographs from last years Dinner night for your interest.

Last year we were fortunate enough to be provided with preliminary research material and a 14th/20th King's Hussars, Regimental flag by Col Draper which was used as part of the room dressing. The 14th/20th King's Hussars Regimental Flag will again be proudly displayed during the Dinner this year. Furthermore, we are also fortunate enough to have a former soldier of 6th Gurkha Rifles now resident in Brunei attending the event to help in this year’s celebration.

We ask your blessing and good wishes for this occasion to help keep this important tradition alive as well as the links between the 14th/20th King's Hussars/KRH and Medicina Lines.

and from Luigi Trevisan in Italy -(honorary member of Noah's Arc)

Dear Bob,

Thank you for letting me know about WO2 Ardley's letter and the celebration in Brunei. It is very nice that the memory cuts distances and make all us so closed !

Freedom and democracy, born in April 1945, are still present: Hussars and Gurkhas played an important, decisive role in that piece of my history and I am lucky and proud to be your Friend.

Luigi

Message from Luigi Trevisan:

Dear Friends,

Good morning.

Today is the 69th Anniversary of the Battle of Medicina.

Very many thanks to your Forefathers and also thanks to all you for your efforts to save the memory of that event, an important step to delete the nazi-fascist dictatorship in my Country.

All my devotion and gratitude for those Folks, died for our freedom, and for all you.
