Museum of Lancashire (14/20th museum north) Preston

Postby j kerwin » Wed Aug 08, 2018 8:02 pm

The 14/20th museum will not be reopened. Lancashire county council says the museum of Lancashire will not be opened again. As you all will know this building housed the 14/20th Museum of the north.
All the history available to the people of the north west. Of Lancashire's own cavalry regiment,
will be lost to our kids and all future generations in this part of England.
County hall don't give a damn, About the military history of the north west. As like the Government anything north of Watford does not count,

Hi Yall, shame it is left to the 'County' Hall to make decisions as atrocious as this one. Besides all the Military History, particularly the 14th/20th King's Hussars history, being lost, there is the wider interest of a great number of people in the History of Lancashire. I don't suppose there is any space available in Ful(l)wood (Init marvelous, I spent my last 2 years in this establishment and now can't even remember how it is spelled) Barracks for something like this or has the MOD surrendered all rights to this property too?

This is outrageous news has the KRH HQ been informed !!! Regarding the 14/20KH historical items that are in the museum surely they must be documented secured and transferred to our new Regt HQ in Winchester for display and safe keeping for families and veterans to see.
Perhaps our chairman of this site could give Peter Garbutt the regt Sec a ring to inform them if they are not already aware.

A few of us voluntarily helped conduct an inventory of the items held in the museum (about 12 months ago). We were informed at the time that a consortium was looking to take over the museum with a view to reopening it.
Any enquiries I made since then were initially answered by "they are still negotiating". It got to the point where I stopped asking. Probably a state where most interested parties did the same..

Quite disappointing and leaving a feeling of being ignored and let down, by all involved.

I'll say no more, I'd like to, but I'll keep my big mouth shut. Wonder if I can put in a demand for payment to LCC for services rendered. Still they will have a nice up to date database of what's in there, a lot of it donated by families of ex serving members of the Regiment and others.

Politicians, a scourge on society, should be taken to the wall and shot.

one good thing came out of this. The volunteers had a surplus of £1600 left, and they donated this to the Blood bike charity. One of their lads was killed delivering urgent supplies to Lancaster a few weeks ago.
