The Hawk was first used in1812 because the eagle on the shako plate resembled a hawk,the sh?te bit could have been added in 1813 when they captured the Emperor, thus becoming the Emperor`s chambermaids.

good question charley,
the crown is prussian nothing to do with GB,the only crown to change was on the collar dogs from KCtoQC from 1954 onwards,and the all black cap badge and primrose backing came in 1966 at perham down after returning from libya.

After a bit of digging around i have the following info.

Name. Alfred Thomas Holloway

Rank. l/cpl reg No 317158.

age. 25.

Died.26 april 1938 in BMH Lucknow U.P. INDIA.

Cause of death. Pneumonia (lobar).

Officer making return.Capt BBN Woodd, adjt 14/20 k hussars.

THE TROOPER STEELE WOULD HAVE BEEN KEN STEELE, HE WAS IN RHQ TROOP IN NORTH AFRICA, HE WENT ON A FEW POSTINGS AND DIED A FEW YEARS AGO, NEVER ATTENDED ANY REUNION.
