Re: Motorhoming for Bill Bentley

Pinky, John Wayne, his horse and Indians. I drove down to Monument Valley in the Navajo Indian Nation on the Arizona-Utah border near to the four corners. I'd booked a personal guided tour starting from the Monument visitor centre supposedly to see parts the public are not normally allowed into. Sur...

Re: Motorhoming for Bill Bentley

Hi Tony, Yes we are still here but our wanderlust is as strong as ever. There will be plenty of time for roots when we are scattered somewhere together. Thank you for your regards. I prefer touring with comfort so to that end our next trip is to the the outer Hebrides when the weather improves. The ...

Motorhoming for Bill Bentley

Hi Bill, Some time ago you asked if I had any motorhome tips. After 3200 miles of quite enjoyable touring around England and Southern Scotland I do have some points to make. With the benefit of experience I can say we have been there and done it (enough anyway). After some discussion we have sold ou...

Birthday

Thanks John (Kirwin) for your kind birthday wishes. Yes I am now 71 and still going strong. I cannot believe 11 years has passed since my heart failure and surgery. I am so thankful to be so well and feel heartfelt for those comrades who have passed before me. At the moment Margaret and I are on wal...

Re: Done and dusted

Hi Tony, We are not intending to return to Canada but still have the wanderlust so an extended holiday is certainly not out of the question. Other locations for a move have also been considered but we cannot decide where. Looking back over our last 50 years together we have moved on average every fi...

Re: Done and dusted

Thank you for the well done Ian guys...I just hoped to get any response. I did not ever drive a Stalwart myself but I did command the bridgelayer tank in about 1968 with Billy Ash driving. He was actually the expert and we did get to deploy the bridge now and then. Except for the time we were stuck ...

Done and dusted

It seems that this website is done and finished by popular choice. It's a shame that something that was so uniquely our own has fallen into non use by the attraction of the facebook monster. My regards to those few stalwarts that has tried so hard to keep it going. Ian Neilson... Alive and well, nea...

Happy heart day

It is 10 years ago today that I underwent open heart surgery. I just want to wish myself happy heart day and to say I feel great even thouugh I have turned 70. I would also like to thank all those comrades again, who wished me the best and support at that time. At the moment I am on the Costa del So...

Re: Where has everybody gone

Hi comrades, I'm here too, always have been. It has been lonely for awhile except for Tony, Pinky and Bill mainly. Sorry Quassie is no longer here to entertain and inform. Hi Malcolm (Sammmy) long time no see, not spotted you in Crewe since I got back from Canada and now that you are moving away we ...

Re: Hawk badge

Hi all, Thank you for your suggestions, I am now satisfied that the badge in question is the current MOD Issue Kings Royal Hussars metal other ranks gilt beret cap badge. Finding an exact copy online proved to be quite a task but eventually I found a site selling one. I am quite surprised how much b...

Re: Hawk badge

Tony, Thanks for that. I assumed the letters on the badge were ER but on closer inspection I am not so sure that is the case now. All of your comments have merit but it is too much like our own skipping chicken not to have some connection. Perhaps it is older then my era say 40's or 50's. I still th...

Re: Hawk badge

Its larger than my old cap badge when I compare and probably too big for collar badges I do not know of any brass rank badges. I think it may be an officers service hat badge. It has been used and polished in the past evidenced by the orb being smooth on the front but with a pattern on the reverse. ...
